Progress & Happenings

Baby Chicks, 3 days old, July 23, 2004Chick VIDEO

We ordered day old chicks, which were sent to us by Priority Mail! Post-marked on July 20th, we picked them up first thing on the 22nd at the post office. 26 chicks arrived in this box!
Judzea was quite curious, as were we about the little one below. A surprise extra chick - a rare and exotic breed from the hatchery. We won't know for sure what breed for a while, but are thinking it's a Phoenix.
The chicks arrived very well and happy. Once we got them in their insulted bin with red lights for heat, they sang.
The Rhode Island Reds (12 all female), are a little smaller, and already have wing feathers sprouting.
The Buff Orpingtons (14, straight run - mixed gender) are very golden, plump and fluffy. They're all way too cute, and contented in their brooding bin kept around 90 degrees.

See them now - full grown chickens!
