Harmony House is designed as a “shared residence”. This means it could be co-owned by up to 4 members (individuals or couples), or some suites might be rented.

The floor plan contains a center Common Section (pictured right) with kitchen, dining area, loft recreation area, utility/pantry room, and half bath. An entry mudroom, cold storage room and firewood closet are located long the north wall.

The basic structure design is a one and one-half shed-roof building. By using a shed-roof, the north wall is one story while the south wall is two story. The south wall is about 50 percent glass to provide significant passive solar heating in the winter. The shed-roof also provides for a good-sized loft area on the south.

The Common Section is flanked to the East and West by Suite Wings. Each wing contains two suites accessed by a north hallway. Each wing is 30 feet wide and 30 feet deep, divided in the center to make two suites.

To provide adequate private space for each individual or couple, suites are planned as opposed to just bedrooms. A suite has bedroom space, a full or 3/4 bath and extra loft space for a sitting room, home office or hobby area – about 550 sq ft per suite. The north hallways provide access to the Common Section, but also have exterior doors. The wall separating the hallway from the suites is lined with bookshelves to provide library space.  Each suite also has an exterior door to the south patio/garden area and a south door from the loft to a small balcony.

Still to be completed on center section:

  •  Make and install 3 exterior doors
  • Close in two hallway openings to future Suite Wings
  • Doors for Firewood Hatch and Coldroom
  • Complete Cathouse deck over Firewood Closet
  • Batten on south wall
  • Install half layer of cotton insulation
  • Connect drain plumbing to septic system (35 feet of piping with excavation)
  • Rough-in wiring and inspection
  • Install 2nd half layer of insulation
  • Layers of roadbase for floor, some screeded of rocks for radiant floor tubing
  • Remaining plumbing rough-in
  • Close in interior rooms
  • Final floor layer – either adobe or concrete/tile
  • Interior stucco or other wall treatment
  • Interior cabinetry and stone work
  • Finish plumbing and electrical with inspections
  • Insulated window shutters
