Kiva Plan - Working Draft

Back

Kiva House is a spiritual and cultural activity center at the heart of EarthArt, first conceived in 1997.

We have cleared the very center of the Kiva site and have a fire circle there.
We have selected a stone labyrinth pattern for the site... the Man in the Maze - see pages 2-4.

Making the maze and walking the labyrinth are first steps, until building the Kiva House itself is possible.

DIAGRAM NOTES:

Kiva style, the innermost circle of the gathering space would be such that when seated, people’s heads would be below ground level. This is rimmed by tiered seating, amphitheater style. A low profile dome roof is envisioned over the gathering space and possibly walkway.

We’re still adding windows/doors to the various outer rooms in the diagram, and details to entrances. As other needs, such as a mechanical room, plumbing plans, etc. are determined, details in this plan will continue to be adjusted and refined.

For reference: the sleep/studio rooms are approximately 14 ft x 16 ft, not including the closet space.

Sleep / Studio rooms could serve as accommodations while Members are building residences and be transitioned to work studios of various kinds, as needed.
