Types of Membership

1) Provisional Membership

A. Exploring Member to Applying Member Path
B. Investing Member to Applying Member Path
C. Applying Member

A) Non-shareholding Resident - Renter
B) Gardens Member


Steps of Membership

All paths to membership begin with reading and having opportunities to discuss with the Board and cooperative members, the then:

• EAV Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws,
• membership documents (Membership Guide, Membership Agreements, etc.),
land use activities information,
financial information,
• other working documents of EAV.


Exploring Member

has filed a Letter of Intention to become an Exploring Member with the EAV Board, and paid all applicable fees
agrees to participate to some extent in EAV activities, as a basis for exploring membership
notifies the Board of their decision to either withdraw from membership consideration, or, proceed with an application for Full Membership
gives the Board feedback on their Exploring Member experience
receives comments from the Board and membership, on their membership process
accepts the decision of the Board (with membership input) regarding their involvement with EarthArt Village, including a recommendation:

    • of an additional period as an Exploring Member
    • to progress to Applying Member
    • to terminate the membership process

Investing Member

has maintained a long term supportive relationship with EAV, and been approved by the Board for Investing Membership
considers Full Membership a longer term proposition, but is ready to begin investing no less than the Bank Note portion of a at least one share *
may progress to Applying Member, completing the related requirements when ready to apply.

* NOTES: 1) Withdrawal of invested funds earlier than 5 years after purchase may result in a penalty and/or reimbursement in installments. Investments are being made toward shares, NOT for the purpose of profit - EarthArt is a Not for Profit association.


Applying Member

has filed a Letter of Intention to become an Applying Member with the EAV Board
has completed a Subscription Application for consideration for Full Membership in the
cooperative association, and paid all applicable fees
agrees to participate to some extent in EAV activities, during the application period
gives the Board feedback on their experience as an Applying Member
receives comments from the Board and membership, on their membership process
accepts the decision of the Board (with membership input), regarding their membership status in EarthArt Village, including a recommendation:
    • of an additional period as an Applying Member
    • to be received as a Full Member
    • to terminate the membership process

Full Member - Shareholder

purchases no less than one full share in EAV, according to terms approved by the EAV Board
pays fees and receives a Membership Certificate
agrees to participate to some extent in EAV activities, during the transition period to living on the land
progresses toward building on the land and living at EAV
agrees to ongoing participation in EAV activities
has a vote in EAV decisions (regardless of number of shares owned

Other Types of Members

Non-shareholding Resident - Renter

has volunteered on site, for 3 days - 2 weeks
has filed a Letter of Intention to become an Resident Renter with the EAV Site Managers, including:
  • Resume or Outline of Educational and Work Experience (current skills, talents, work status)
  • Biosketch: A one page maximum, narrative overview, including family status, current personal interests and activities, etc.
  • Brief statements on:
    • What aspects of EAV attract you to consider living here ...
    • What you feel you could contribute to the EAV community...
    • Any issues or concerns about considering living at EAV...
    • Any special needs or challenges you might have in living here.
meets with Site Managers, to be oriented to the EarthArt Mission, Conceptual and Membership Plans, and to determine details, such as - finances, living arrangements, work contribution, etc.
signs agreements in a rental contract
accepts the decision of the Site Managers, regarding their renter status in EarthArt Village

Gardens Member

  • Pays an annual fee toward garden supplies, and helps out in the garden when able.
  • Receives produce from the EarthArt gardens.
